Day of Caring Volunteers Spruce Up the School

Volunteers were hard at work in and around the school on Friday, September 6 as they participated in the annual Day of Caring organized by the Capital Region United Way. The effort was one of the many projects across the city area, with more than 1000 volunteers working for community nonprofits all over the Capital area.

17 volunteers from AAA Central Penn had a full schedule of work from 9am to 2pm and a planned list of projects to help the school. Classes proceeded normally, but students and teachers saw the helpers throughout the day in common spaces like the office and the Bishop’s Garden. The volunteers power-washed monuments, painted rooms, dusted cobwebs, cleaned blinds, and weeded to spruce up the property. They also worked to organize and donate old textbooks, stamp newer ones, and sort out the jumble of playground toys used outside. When they broke for lunch the volunteers were given a tour of the school.

The Capital Area United Way is dedicated to identifying community needs in Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry Counties and working to find real solutions. There are nearly 1800 local United Way organizations across the world, each striving for the overall mission of improving lives by “mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.” Thank you, volunteers, for dedicating your time to help St. Stephen’s Episcopal School and contribute to the betterment of our school and our city!
