Welcome to our new Head of School - Ellen Hartman
My name is Ellen Min Hartman and I am honored that the school board has appointed me as the new Head of School. I am excited about the opportunity to serve your family alongside the talented and dedicated St. Stephen’s school staff. Most of all, I look forward to getting to know you and your children and continuing the outstanding work at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School.
Over the past few weeks, I have had the privilege of getting to know some of the amazing people who make up the school family, while also learning about the rich school history. I know that St. Stephen’s Episcopal School has a history of phenomenal Heads of School, and it was during my visit with Mrs. Pat Cameron that I realized I have very big shoes to fill. Rest assured that my goal will be to continue building upon what everyone has worked so hard to achieve, and to use that strong foundation to help St. Stephen’s Episcopal School excel.
I come with nearly a decade of classroom experience as a high school English teacher in the Cumberland Valley, Harrisburg City, and Derry Township school districts, and more than six years a virtual instructor at the Commonwealth Charter Academy. My love of learning led me to pursue and acquire my Master of Arts and Educational Leadership Certification through Penn State Harrisburg, and my passion for diversity and inclusion spurred me to become a leader in cultural competency development. I am excited to bring all of my experience, education, and passion to the St. Stephen’s community.
On a personal note, I am originally from the city of Philadelphia. Born to first-generation immigrant parents, I am in touch with my South Korean heritage, speaking fluent Korean and preparing traditional meals each week. I met my husband shortly after completing my undergraduate studies at Dickinson College, and we chose to settle down in this area. I currently reside in the city of Harrisburg with my husband, my four-year-old daughter Aida (who is attending kindergarten at St. Stephen’s), my seven-month old daughter Elyse, and our fluffy pet bunny Lola.
I look forward to continuing to provide our students with outstanding educational opportunities and academic excellence. Please don't hesitate to email at ehartman@sseschool.org or stop by my office to introduce yourself any time as my door is always open.
With great honor and excitement,
Ellen Min Hartman Head of School
